Fill in a form and sign it
Updated October 21, 2026
You can fill in and sign a PDF without printing it.
Fill in the form
- Open the PDF. If it has form fields, click a field and type, or click a check box to tick it.
- Press Tab to move to the next field.
- If the form has no fields, choose Text on the toolbar and click on the page where you want to type.
Add your signature
- Choose Sign on the toolbar, or Tools › Fill & Sign.
- Under Signatures, choose + Add signature. (Under Initials, + Add initials works the same way.)
- Draw your signature with the mouse or a pen, Type your name, or choose an Image of your signature.
- Leave Save for next time on to keep it for later, then choose Place signature.
- Click on the page where the signature should go.
Next time, your saved signature is in the Sign menu: click it, then click on the page.
The Sign menu also has Add today’s date, and marks (a check, cross, dot, line or circle) for paper-style forms.
Save
Choose File › Save (Ctrl+S), or File › Save As… (Ctrl+Shift+S) to keep the blank form as it was.
This adds a picture of your signature. If someone needs proof that the document hasn’t changed since you signed it, use a digital signature instead.
