Track changes and add comments

Updated October 21, 2026

The Review tab in Documents has the reviewing tools you know from Word. When you save as a Word document (.docx), changes and comments are kept in the file, so people using Word see them too.

Set your name first

Changes and comments are signed with your name. Set it in Edit › Preferences… (Ctrl+K) under Identity.

Track changes

  1. On the Review tab, choose Track Changes. While it’s on, what you add and delete is marked instead of changed outright.
  2. Choose what to see in the markup list: All Markup, No Markup (the document as it would be with every change accepted) or Original.
  3. To settle changes, put the cursor in a paragraph and choose Accept or Reject, or choose Accept All or Reject All.
  4. Choose Track Changes again to turn it off.

Comments

  1. Select the words you want to comment on.
  2. On the Review tab, choose New Comment (Ctrl+Alt+M), type your comment and press Ctrl+Enter.
  3. Comments appear in the Comments pane beside the page. Each one has Reply, Resolve, Edit and Delete.

To compare two versions of a document, choose Compare… on the Review tab.

Save with Ctrl+S when you’re done. See Open, create and save Word documents.
