Edit text and images in a PDF
Updated October 21, 2026
Edit PDF lets you change what’s on the page itself, not just add comments on top.
Edit text
- Open the PDF and choose Tools › Edit PDF (Ctrl+Shift+E), or Edit PDF on the toolbar.
- Click the text you want to change and type. Text below a longer or shorter edit moves to make room.
- Use the Format panel to change the font, size, color and alignment.
- Drag a block of text to move it.
- To replace a word or phrase everywhere, choose Find & Replace on the Edit PDF bar.
Add new text
- In Edit PDF, choose Add Text.
- Click on the page where the text should start, and type. Set how it looks in the Format panel.
Work with images
- In Edit PDF, click an image to select it.
- Drag it to move it, or drag a corner to resize it.
- Use the buttons on the Edit PDF bar to rotate or flip it, Crop it, Replace Image… or Delete Image.
To put a new picture on the page, choose Tools › Add Image….
Finish
Choose Done, then File › Save (Ctrl+S), or File › Save As… (Ctrl+Shift+S) to keep the original. Edit › Undo (Ctrl+Z) takes back a change.
If something goes wrong
- You can’t click the text on a scanned page. A scan is a picture of text. Run Recognize Text (OCR) first, then edit it.
- Edit PDF is grayed out. The document’s security settings don’t allow changes.
- Some characters weren’t added. No font you have includes them. PDF Studio tells you which ones were left out; try another font in the Format panel.
